History

The Association for Helping People with Intellectual Disabilities "Latice" has been operating since 1967. It was initially established as a society of experts (defectologists and doctors) with the aim of providing the best possible care for people with intellectual disabilities. It gradually grew into a parents' association and took on its final form in 1987, when the "Latica" Club began operating continuously.

The "Latica" Club for people with intellectual disabilities who live in families, are cared for by the Social Welfare Center and live independently, and are not covered by any form of state care, has been operating since 1987. Throughout all these years of operation, the "Latica" Club has contributed to changing prejudices and stereotypes about people with intellectual disabilities. We have sensitized the local community and shown the great possibilities of people with intellectual disabilities. Today, our members are equally included in community life. The continuity of the Club's activities, the increasing number of members included in the Club, the support of the local community and local organizations are indicators of the success of the Association's activities. Through our constant presence at all local events and manifestations, and through our independent exhibitions that we have organized so far, we show the community every day how great the possibilities of people with intellectual disabilities are. For two years in a row, we have organized the National Table Tennis Championship for People with Intellectual Disabilities with the Special Olympics of Croatia. Three members promoted the Republic of Croatia at the Special Olympics in 2011. in Athens, two members promoted the Republic of Croatia at the European Special Olympics 2012 in Ljubljana. Our brochure was printed in 3000 copies.

Since 1999, aware of the problems faced by children with developmental disabilities in preschool age, a team of experts including a special education teacher and a speech therapist has initiated the rehabilitation of children with developmental disabilities aged 3 to 7. The program, called the "Touch" Playhouse, continues to have a strong impact on the better inclusion of children with developmental disabilities in the environment and in the educational system.

On June 26, 2015, the Youth Club "Our Angels" was founded, and it operates as part of the Association for Assistance to People with Intellectual Disabilities "Latice", for the purpose of caring for school children with developmental disabilities during school holidays.
