On April 15, 2016, the Croatian Federation of Associations of People with Intellectual Disabilities organized a study trip for representatives of associations to Maribor to their Training Center "Polž".
On that occasion, we had the opportunity to see how a Center in Slovenia is organized, which was of course a wonderful experience for all of us.
These are protective workshops, workshops for people with intellectual disabilities, which function in such a way that each person is approached individually and each person regardless of his or her level of disability, has the opportunity to demonstrate his or her abilities and possibilities. Each workshop has its own leader: carpentry workshop, laundry room, creative workshops, music therapy rooms... and in this way they not only prove to others that they too can contribute to the development of their organization, but they themselves also feel useful.
We also visited their residential communities located near the Center, where the residents also spend their daycare.
During this trip, we exchanged experiences about programs and methods of financing organizations of people with intellectual disabilities in Croatia and Slovenia.
The "Latice" association in Slovenia was represented by the president of the association, Nevenka Fuchs.
