They are not trapped in their own world, they just don't cope well in ours and need our help, support, and endless love.
On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, the Latice Association organized a gathering on Zrinski Square on Saturday, April 2, 2016. We distributed commemorative leaflets and blue balloons.
After that, we were joined by another team that worked at the pizza cooking school, so no one went hungry.
What the Association wants is to introduce and sensitize people/the environment to children with developmental disabilities, and since Saturday was World Autism Awareness Day, we wanted to show people in a way that the differences that exist among children/people are not always something we have to turn away from, but rather to become familiar with them and, above all, respect those differences, whatever they may be.
That means
To love your children, the little ones, the bigger ones, and the biggest ones, to be their support, to be their voice, their hands, feet, touch, crying, laughing, tears....
We parents of children with developmental disabilities are proud parents of our children, because they make us better parents, better people, and every day they teach us to stay positive and spread that around us.
It's not always easy for us in this world of ours, full of unknowns, surprises, fears, and rules - written and unwritten.
Thank you to everyone who supports us - parents, siblings, families, therapists, educators, teachers, assistants, friends, and all those who pass through our lives.
Thank you to everyone who sincerely asked at least once: "How are you?"
