The "Latice" association completed the project (New Challenges for Children with Developmental Disabilities) financed by the "Alps Adriatic Alliance" tender from Austria and the Koprivnica-Križevci County. The "Latice" association was the project leader and the project partners were the Cerebral Palsy Society "Sonček" from Maribor (Slovenia), Rettet-das-Kind from Eisenstadt (Austria) and HGA (Croatian Economic Agency) from Gradišće. Since the association does not have its own capacities to independently carry out this complex activity, it was carried out once a month in cooperation with the "Polyclinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation "Prof. dr. sc. Milena Stojčević Polovina" from Zagreb. The members of the rehabilitation team of the Polyclinic are: doctors specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, senior physiotherapists, pedagogue therapist and occupational therapists. This project included 15 children and their parents, members of the junior club "Our Angels" and the Playhouse "Dodir", which operates as part of the Association.
The trainings were individually tailored to each child and their parents, taking into account the specificities and differences in diagnoses, which required the involvement of a team of experts from the "Polyclinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation "Prof. dr. sc. Milena Stojčević Polovina" from Zagreb. In order to ensure the best quality of training, the main part of the project was carried out in Koprivnica, while a part was carried out in the Polyclinic in Zagreb. Depending on individual needs and indications, the following rehabilitation methods were used in the trainings: neurodevelopmental therapy according to Bobath, Vojta rehabilitation, rehabilitation method according to Stojčević Polovina, educational and rehabilitation education with elements of sensory integration therapy and developmental rehabilitation.
As part of the project, we had a working visit to our partner, the “SONČEK” Center in Maribor, the association of Slovenian cerebral palsy societies. The aim of this working visit was to exchange experiences. The President of the “LATICE” Association, Nevenka Fuchs, presented the work of our association, while our host was introduced by the Vice President of the Association, Lidija Šestak – Zorič. Dr. Polovina gave a lecture presenting various rehabilitation methods used with children at the Polyclinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation “Prof. dr. sc. Milena Stojčević Polovina” and how important early intervention is. There was also a working visit to our partner in Austria, Rettet-das-Kind from Eisenstadt. Dr. Elisabeth Scheikl-Pourkhalil presented the work of the organization, Nevenka Fuchs presented the work of our Association, and Dr. Andrea Polovina presented the work of the Polyclinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation “Prof. dr. sc. Milena Stojčević Polovina”. After the lecture, we toured the center and were presented with a practical way of working with users. The conclusion is that we must continue our cooperation in the future. It is precisely through such partnerships and networking of similar associations and organizations that we can contribute to a better quality of life for people with disabilities, people with intellectual disabilities and children with developmental disabilities. After the completion of the project, we continue our activities in cooperation with the Polyclinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation "Prof. dr. sc. Milena Stojčević Polovina" from Zagreb thanks to the humanitarian action "GIVE A SMILE WITH PETALS". We thank the "Alps Adriatic Alliance" from Austria, Koprivnica-Križevci County for financing this project, which is of great importance to our users. It is our desire and obligation to implement as many such projects as possible for the benefit of children with developmental disabilities.
Many thanks to the DIRECTOR of the HGA (Croatian Economic Agency) from Burgenland, KLAUDIA PAULITSCH, who was our coordinator and liaison with partners.
